October sun
The day started off beautifully. Bright, clear, cold, plenty of sunshine. I haven't been able to visit my mum every week with all that's been going on, but I go when I can. It's nice to be able to get out and stretch my legs, but if there is someone here doing work it's best to stay on site as there are always problems to deal with. And of course there is Henry cat. There are times when you don't feel that you could entirely trust someone not to accidentally let him out, or for him to be scared with a lot of loud thuds and bangs.
The decorator chap strikes me as totally trustworthy and he has cats too. Yesterday he and Henry cat made friends, I had no problem leaving the house knowing not only would Henry stay safely shut in the kitchen, but that he was with someone who liked cats.
Not only was it a perfect walking day, but I saw the lady that I speak to twice: on the way there and again on the way home. She'd been to have her hair done, so we stopped and had a quick chat and I learned more about her. She is so interesting. She used to play netball for a local team back in the day, did not expect to find that out about her!
Further along I saw the chap that I call 'my cowboy', a gent who is probably nearing his 70's, always dressed head to toe in denim, and completes the look with hat (though it looks like a barbour not a cowboy hat), he is always smiling. We say hello as we pass and I have not seen him since early this year. It's good to know the two I call my 'Tuesday People' are ok. On the way home I stopped at a shop to get some mince and sauce for dinner, I decided a spaghetti bolognese would be a good idea but had nothing for it. I bought a few other things and on a whim, a box of mince pies. Well, it is a Ber month and Christmas is edging closer so why not. The detour to the shop meant I got to say hello to the ginger cat who always seems to be sleeping by the shop door, and then a tiny little cat going about his business as I started the walk home. Both were friendly and let me stroke them.
My mum was well. Pleased with the bits and pieces I took her, and I was glad that when I returned home that Henry was fine and happy.
I fed Henry, made the decorator a cup of coffee, then sat in the garden room to drink a frothy coffee and read the magazines I'd just bought, admiring the rainbows on the wall as I did so.
