bought some things
Recently I've been scuttling up into bed early. Once everything is cleared up from dinner and the house is as tidy as it can be during ongoing work, I take myself away to relax.
There is always a food magazine of some kind in the house, but I avoid looking at them before I go to bed as I'll get hungry or dream about food and wake up hungry. I'm not in the mood for any non fiction at the moment, so I decided to look for a book on Amazon.
This one had very mixed reviews, but it had Autumn in the title which quite honestly was enough for me. I'm only 12 pages in, so I can't tell you if it's any good or not, but the early signs are it's going to be fine. I do question why everyone has to have a bit of an unusual name though, Clover, Skye, Angel and something like Aria? Can't remember, either way they are unusual and I find myself wishing they had plainer (more believable) names.
Even though I'm well aware it's October now, I suddenly realised I needed to start thinking about the hamper that I put together for my Mum and brother for Christmas.
Haven't bought a thing for it yet so need to make a start this week, nor did I have anything suitable to put it in.
Last year I bought a small wooden box from The Works, which was great but so heavy when I had to carry it round full of tins and cakes and biscuits. I took a look at The Works website, who promised next day delivery even if ordered on a Sunday, and found a suitable hamper kit for £8. It has arrived as you can see, and will do the job very well. Pleased with that. Love that I don't have to buy any extra cellophane or hamper filling, it comes with everything.
As I was paying for next day delivery I felt I should make the most of it, and decided to buy three books for £6. That is such a good offer. Clearly I had a theme, not only festive but seemingly food related too. 'Christmas for beginners' doesn't appear to be food related, but I chose it because it's the author who wrote the Chocolate Lovers' series which I really enjoy anyway, but I'm taking my chances they'll be some good food descriptions included.
Even when I say that I don't want to read foodie stuff at night, I end up buying books that are going to make me feel hungry.

We used to make hampers up for my MIL and SIL which proved to be a very welcome present. I sometimes added homemade lemon curd or a small homemade Christmas cake and often we would put in a DVD or CD too or a book or magazine so it was something to watch / listen to/ or read at Christmas as well as eat. For my SIL I even embroidered a couple of napkins which they loved. Have fun making up the hampers.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I took round a festive hamper my mum cried. She said it was such a nice thing to be given, and I have to say I agree. I fill it with treats and things I know she and my brother like but don't always buy. Last time I added a festive TV guide, which I think went down really well too. Love the goodies that you put in yours. They take a bit of time and effort, but I think a hamper is a really nice gift to give.
