subtle
It might still be very warm at the moment, and we still desperately need rain, but there is a very subtle yet noticeable shift in the air in the mornings now. You can feel it and you can smell it. Autumn is on the way.
Won't be sad to see the end of the hot weather, it's been constant for a long time.
The kitchen fitter has been here today to change the handles on four doors. I decided I didn't like the knobs and wanted long, slim ones instead. This means the kitchen is finally, 100% finished. So I'll try to get my act together and get some decent photos. I have been holding back a little as I wanted to wait until the handles were changed over. Definitely the right decision, it looks nicer and is so much easier to open the cupboard doors.
The end of the week and the start of college life for Violet. It's the orientation day today, she's able to use her phone so I've been kept fully informed of goings on. Sounds as if it's not too bad, she was whinging this morning that it was going to be boring, I said she wouldn't have time to be bored which sounds about right. She has four subjects: computing, sociology (I think, or something that sounds like it), maths, and further maths. I've no idea where she gets her brains from but she has them in abundance. Bill and I are incredibly proud of her. She has no idea of a career plan yet, but we've told her not to worry as that will come later. The main thing now is getting A levels and then deciding on uni after that. If she drops any subjects, or changes anything then that's fine too. We're more concerned with her enjoying the next two years with subjects that she enjoys and will do well in.
Tomorrow we have yet another date with the dump. It's been harder to find stuff to gather this time which is great, means we have already got rid of almost all that needed to go. I do have another little plan fermenting though, so I can't promise our Saturday Dump Dates have finished just yet.
That's it from me this week. I hope your September has started off happily and well.

I think college should be enjoyed especially as they finally get to choose what they really want to study. Let's face it GCSE 'options' aren't much of an option are they. My Dad was naturally gifted at maths, it definitely skipped a generation and the gene has only been passed on to one granddaughter lol.
ReplyDeleteSeptember can be a lovely month but you're right, the nights are drawing in and there's a slight chill in the air. Mark informed me today there are only 16 Fridays before Christmas! Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your dump date :) xx
agreed. It should be fun, the GCSE's aren't really. Violet is most anxious about getting there on the bus, but I know once she's done it a few times she'll be fine. It literally takes her to the door, no thinking required.
DeleteI wish I was good at maths. I'm always super impressed with myself if I can do the number on Countdown, but then when I see the stuff that Violet does I feel totally stupid. Not a clue what it means, and have no idea how she understands it. but she's very logical, I think that's a huge part of it.
Crikey. The year is hurtling by. x
Career plans are so hard for them, they shouldn't worry when they're so young. She's going to be fine, so smart...maths, and further maths, yikes! Just so you know, I've been so inspired by all of your trips to the dump! There is such a freeing feeling from getting rid of things...not that I've done too much of it yet, but I'm starting, and I am going to! Thank you for sharing, can't wait to see the kitchen!!!
ReplyDeleteDella
They are Della, and life isn't a straight line, more like a big scribble, so how is anyone meant to realistically plan theirs?! Especially at 16.
DeleteOh yey, I'm glad you're inspired! I honestly think I'm addicted to chucking stuff out now, and I'm always thinking about the next bunch of stuff to gather. I've just uploaded two posts showing the garage, I hope you'll enjoy seeing just how much rubbish we have got rid of!
