saucy
On Saturday afternoon we paid a visit to Suffolk Food Hall. It had been a while since we went there, and I had the sudden realisation that they would stock pretty much the full range of Stokes sauces.
Quite correct, and now the cupboard is once more groaning with the products, and I didn't have to pay delivery charges or wait a week for it to turn up. While were were there I picked up some locally grown carrots and a cauliflower, which I needed for Sunday lunch. I don't just throw things in my basket without any thought, but things were reasonably priced and I wasn't too worried when I couldn't see the price of the cauli. I chose one and off we went.
It wasn't until I got home and looked at the receipt that I realised the cauliflower had cost £3.50. Prices are rising all the time, I know that, but it seems like a serious amount of coin for one vegetable. Anyway. I used it for cauliflower cheese and it was delicious.
Just as well.

Prices are rising rapidly! I bought one of Sainsburys "imperfect" cauliflowers at the weekend. It looked normal to me in shape, texture, etc, plus it was only 75p. I find it very strange that veg can be imperfect or wonky. I've never tried anything from the Stokes range - always been a Heinz tomato sauce family, however I recently downgraded due to price and there was only a slight taste difference, plus it's still getting used!!
ReplyDeleteThe whole wonky veg thing makes me laugh, nature isn't perfect anyway!
DeleteStokes is worth a try and a real treat. We were happily using Waitrose own brand tomato sauce, but now we are all hooked. It's a smidge pricey, but we seem to be addicted!
