sunflowers
By adding what I consider to be autumnal touches around the house, I'm hoping the weather will take heed and change. It's so muggy and hot. I gave up trying to sleep a little after 1 this morning, there was no point. Seems the milkman had decided he may as well get on with his round early, he normally gets here around 2.30, but this morning it was an hour earlier.
This morning I gave the house a good clean, got sheets on the line - they are dry now and back on the bed - washed floors, and did food prep for tonight. I'm less 'laundry and lilies' these days, and more 'sweat and sunflowers'. The sunflowers and foliage in the photo are from the garden. It's the colour of these ones that gives me autumnal vibes.
Even though it's too hot for candles, I lit one in the living room. I found it in the garage, it's cinnamon and something and still had a good scent to it.
For once I'm more than a little hesitant for Autumn to arrive. I will welcome the cooler weather, but there are other things going on that I can't say I'm especially looking forward to. It's a shame it'll cast a shadow over my favourite season.
It also looks like we've been let down yet again for the same project that didn't happen last year. We are beyond annoyed as this time we'd had to pay a deposit. What is it with builders and not getting back to you or doing what they say they will? Suffice to say the request to refund the deposit will be made shortly, but part of me is hoping that they will come back with the plans and give us a start date. It's something we really wanted to see happen this year. Deep down I know it won't and that makes me sad.
The sky is thick with cloud, most of it grey. How wonderful it would be to hear rain tonight. And get some sleep.

I'm sorry to read you have something looming over you.
ReplyDeleteWe have been waiting since last year to have our house rendered. Several companies didn't get back to me. We accepted a quote from another, and it was supposed to be done in Spring. It was put back to Autumn. I'm not sure that the render on the side will stand another Winter of weather. If I'm let down I will be furious.
it's the weeks of silence with only a response after a few emails from Bill that is most annoying. Last year we had a bloke from a company with a fairly good reputation around here but he was utterly useless. Since then I've seen a review about them that echoed our experience exactly. Good manners stops me from naming them, but if I ever heard of anyone I know thinking they were going to do work for them, I'd warn them off.
DeleteThe chap who came out to give us a quote in late spring seemed much better, and we talked about the project being started a week or so after the completion of the kitchen. He's starting to be exactly the same as the previous bloke which is even more annoying as he had a deposit. He's apparently coming tomorrow to show plans and example of products, but I'll believe it when I see it. We are losing faith.
So I hope your work does start when it's meant to, it's just too annoying when you're all set, ready to go mentally and financially and yet these clowns just constantly let you down.
Thanks for your kind words.

ReplyDeleteSorry you have been let down again and plans scuppered for now, and also that you're not looking forward much to Autumn, hopefully things won't be quite as bad as you fear. This glimpse of your new kitchen looks lovely!!
Thanks Annabeth. Yes, I'm hoping that too. Life is nothing but difficult situations sometimes.
DeleteI must get together a little video montage to put on the blog. Or at least a few photos, I've gone on about enough it's time to show it!
The little snippet of your kitchen reveals gorgeousness! I loved your old kitchen too. We could do with a more updated kitchen - we've not changed it in over 30yrs, so you can imagine how dated it looks. It's one of those jobs we put off - due to expense and mess!! It's only a tiny space though, but awkward as it has 2 doors in it and a floor standing boiler.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and that's kind to say that about the old kitchen. Thanks to ancient blogging, I've got many photos of how the kitchen used to look and has changed over the years. It looks like a different house to me now, I cannot believe how much has changed in the one room.
DeleteWell I totally understand your reasons for putting a makeover off. We initially talked about getting it done last year, but I just couldn't face it. I honestly think apart from the financial side which obviously takes some planning, you have to get yourself mentally ready to face the upheaval. It isn't easy to deal with, not in the slightest. I have a blogging/gramming friend who has been dealing with her kitchen renovation for at least four months now, and I can't even start to think how she must be feeling. You get to the point when you have had enough and need it to be over. I'm in awe that she's coping so well.
