not hello fresh
Whenever I see the adverts for Hello Fresh I think how nice it would be to have food delivered with instructions on how to cook it. The idea of it all being the perfect amount really appeals. But to me, it's not sensible. It seems like an impractical luxury, though I can see how it would be really useful.
So it's always been something that I'd like to try but know I'm unlikely to.
Earlier this week I was watching a chap on You Tube, his video was 'Hello fresh Cod recipe'. But he hadn't got the HF box, he'd bought the ingredients and was using their recipe ..... their recipe? How do you do that if you haven't bought it through them. Well. Turns out you can see their recipe ideas on the website and app. I liked the idea of the fish the chap was cooking, so tracked down the recipe. I bought salmon instead of cod, and did the minted pea recipe too. The fish was coated in mayonnaise, then topped with panko breadcrumbs mixed with parsley, lemon zest and olive oil, and baked in the oven. To make the peas you melt butter, add grated garlic, toss in the peas until cooked and add lemon zest and chopped mint. Once cooked they are lightly crushed with a fork. So good. I served with new potatoes instead of making their chips because it was too hot to be cooking for long, but I shall certainly be making their chips in the future. Once the weather has cooled down. It's helpful to have new suggestions, usually I cook salmon with nothing more than a slice of lemon and some butter, having a crunchy topping made a nice change. I'll be reading the recipes often to see what else I can try.
One of the suggestions that came up on You Tube was for Jacques Pepin, who I love. I hadn't watched any of his cooking for a while and chose his omelette recipe. I've tried to make omelettes so many times, but they usually go wrong and end up as scrambled egg. Jacques made it look so simple that I was inspired to try again. Making his chive omelette. I thought it was going to go wrong, but blimey, it only went well. They take a bit of effort but they are worth it. So much so that next week I plan on treating myself, I'm going to order a proper omelette pan to use in future as I know that the reason they go wrong so often is that I'm using the wrong pan.
