dumped
This was my view from early this morning. Sitting outside the rubbish dump in town, watching the buses leaving the station across the road.
It's not an area of town I go to often and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The air had a lovely smell to it, even though I was right beside the dump. I could smell undergrowth and lavender.
Why was I sitting in this location. Well, Bill booked a time slot at the dump - which has been implemented since covid - for 9 a.m. We got up early, emptied the van (when I say we, it was Bill who emptied the van), then we managed to fit in the old fridge, microwave, TV, and TV aerial that was removed from the roof a couple of weeks ago, along with books and 20 years worth of Vogue magazine. So much stuff, the front seats needed to be folded down to get the fridge to fit. No room for Sadie. So Bill took me in the car and left me there, came home and swapped to the van and went back so I was already there to help him.
It has been so many years since I've taken anything to the dump and things have changed so much. It's really impressive. Everything is separated and clearly marked, you can take absolutely anything and know it's going to go to the correct recycling plant. It takes a while and is hard work, but so worth it. Getting rid of everything ourselves meant we saved money, we had planned on having it collected from us which would have cost a fair amount. It feels so great to have done it ourselves, all it took was sweat and effort. It went so well we are going to book it again this coming weekend and get rid of more stuff. The Great Purge continues.
