patience

Each day I go out and look at the sweetcorn. It's getting there. Looking a little fatter every time. There is something almost magical about picking it, cooking it, and eating it when it's fresh from the garden. A huge treat.

The title of this post is patience, but in reality mine is wearing thin. To complain about anything related to the kitchen will sound peevish, spoilt and entitled. I understand that, the bottom line is we have our dream kitchen, I count my blessings and feel incredibly lucky.
However, we are nearing the end of the seventh week. Seven weeks of chaos, dust, people in the house all the time, and Violet, Henry and I staying out of the way so they can get on uninterrupted. It's a long time and we are all more than a little jaded. I'm hoping against hope that the decorating will be completed today. Not sure if it will as the decorator does seem to want to try not to do things. Lots of wide eyes and 'oh, am I doing that?' type of stuff as if he's new to this and doesn't understand. He's been doing the job for this company for years, he knows the score. As a result he is winding me up and I am staying away completely, until he calls me to ask one of his inane questions. Bill will be home around lunchtime, I've told him he can deal with him if he's still here because I've had enough.

At least once he's done I can start organising things. I've put a few bits in cupboards but with work still ongoing not all cupboards are usable and those that are have had things shoved in without much thought. To see the room dressed and looking like ours will be amazing. The tiling behind the oven is due to be taken care of on Saturday morning, and then .... it's done. Oh, apart from I've changed my mind about some of the handles so they need to be swapped, and I'm waiting for a change to one of the drawers, but other than those tiny details, the work and decorating will be done. Can't wait.
The next project is a big one, but isn't going to be as intrusive. The third project definitely will, but that's not until October so there's a bit of time to breathe first. And we have cooked up another project, which I'm calling 'The Privacy Project', or 'Don't Want To See The Moron Next Door' project. More about that anon.

And we have some extra room in the garage now. The pool table was taken away last night. I was nervous in case they couldn't move it, or it wouldn't fit in the van. The table came from a pub orginally so it's a proper one, very heavy with a slate top. Three chaps were doing it and I barely dared to look worrying that it would be impossible. But no, it was lifted, put in the van and taken it away. Now we can get into that side of the garage easily and give the junk piled up there a proper sort and clear out. Some of it is kitchen stuff so the pile will go down swiftly, at least 6 boxes are things to go out, so once we get cracking it's going to be very spacious in there. The Great Declutter of 22 continues.

  1. Hello Sadie, so lovely to hear from you and thank you for the birthday wishes on my blog. I must say you can be hard to track down sometimes when you do a blog change but I now have your new address from your comment and look forward to reading your posts. I love the new name and new look and am held in suspense of seeing glimpses of your new kitchen. I have not been well recently so my commenting is quite sparse as I am reserving my good moments for writing a post but I will be reading along. Are you OK with me updating my blog roll with your new blog? Take care now and just keep your eye on the end goal with your kitchen - having people in to do jobs is my worst nightmare....equally I am probably theirs as like you I want it all done proper!!

    1. Lovely to see you here! I know, I can be a bit of a rotter for keeping under the radar, and I've not been consistently blogging this year. Had a break for a couple of months, and then deided it was time to make a change.
I don't mind you adding me to your reads at all.

I hpe you are on the mend now and I truly hope your back gets stronger.

I'm an idiot really, I want the work done but not the people in to do it! Ideally, it would be done by magical elves in the middle of the night, silently and without a hitch. Then I could come down in the morning and find it all done. If only! Still. We are edging towards the end now, but it has been a very, very long seven weeks. x
