it resumes

The painter and his sidekick have turned up today. I've already been in to go through a few things because I know this particular chap is negative and will try to wriggle out of doing things he doesn't want to do. My Spidey senses picked up on it on Thursday, and it was confirmed by Raife the Kitchen Fitter Extraordinare on Friday. He laughed when I said 'hmm, he doesn't know what he's walking in to does he?', because when it comes to getting things done in the kitchen it's going to be right. I'd already had a strong conversation with someone over some work that I wasn't happy with and I'm not afraid of telling people what needs to be done. I am not a bossy or mean person, but I'm not shy and reserved either and always speak my mind. Being nice doesn't mean I'm weak. And when it's something as big and important as getting the details right in this particular room, don't try to cut corners because I'm not having it.

This morning we have grey cloud and a breeze. A dear, sweet breeze. It may or may not bring a storm and/or rain, but I'm just happy that it has cooled down from yesterday. The weather app tells me it's 21 degrees at the moment (8.37 a.m) and drizzly. I see no drizzle but I live in hope.
Yesterday afternoon Bill was sorting something in the garage, I took him a cool drink and was hit by the smell of smoke. Not BBQ smoke either. The park and allotments close to a school were on fire. They put it out fairly quickly but goodness, it was scary. There have been many fires throughout England, with one particularly bad one raging through homes and leaving many with nothing. The scenes were heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking.

Bill was sorting out things in the garage because we have found someone to take away the pool table. It's been on the left hand side of the garage for almost 21 years, and for the past 7 or 8 done nothing but held piles of junk. We wanted the space back so asked Raife if he knew anyone who'd like it. He found someone and he plans to pick it up tonight. It'll be sad to see it go, it was one of the first things we did when we moved here, but it's time. It's a proper pool table and deserves to be used and enjoyed.

It was lovely to find so many comments waiting for me. Thank you. It's always good to see familiar names, and it gives me a better idea of who reads the blog, it's just nice to know. So thank you, I appreciate it.

  1. The old saying "if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well" springs to mind! I don't blame you for wanting things just right - it would irritate me for ever more if I knew it hadn't been done exactly how I'd wanted. The new kitchen sounds lovely. As for the fires, weren't the scenes awful!

    1. Quite right! we've waited so long to do this, I really want it just right. Even if I do annoy people by saying so.

I feel for the people who have lost everything. Seeing everything up in flames like that was just terrible. x
