Sunday
On Friday I celebrated my 51st birthday. Very quietly, other than the sound of the floor being put down in the bathroom.
The coat I showed recently was my present, Bill wanted to get me some perfume so I asked for a selection of miniatures from Penhaligons.
All very lovely, apart from one which I just don't enjoy so have given to Violet to use. It reminds me very much of the fragrances sold by The Body Shop back in the 80's, so I wasn't keen. And chocolate. I buy chocolate chips from a speciality website, they sent an email talking of their newest product and I really liked the look of it. Bill bought me a bar, we've yet to try it but chocolate is chocolate, we all know it's going to be good! My main request was for no cards. As years have gone by I find I have very little interest in cards. I stopped sending Christmas cards years ago, and I am pleased to say that it means I don't really get any sent to me. Which suits me fine. Not being a Grinch, I just find them a pain in every way, from having to write them to finding a way of having them on display.
When I was doing all the sorting and delcuttering, I found I had piles of three things. Magazines, bank statements, and greetings cards. All of which didn't need to be kept and did nothing but clog up space.
I've kept a few cards, mainly from Violet when she was small, covered in drawings and messages of 'I love you mum'. But all the rest have gone. I hadn't looked at them in years, they didn't really mean anything to me, and they take up so much room. And, I find them a waste of money for me. I still send birthday cards, but I don't want them myself.
Bill is out painting the greenhouse, it's starting to look more green than pink now and we love how it looks. I'm in the kitchen prepping for Sunday lunch. Lamb, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, gravy and yorkshire puds. I've made the cauliflower cheese, once I've dealt with the potatoes I'm going to go and sit in the living room and read my book for a while. Well deserved, as I've also dismantled and removed the bed in Violet's original room, another house refresh coming up there, more on that as and when changes happen.
Final week of the bathroom coming up and I admit to feeling excited. Light at the end of the tunnel. Then it's back to Project 2, which Bill and I went and placed an order for yesterday. Once things get moving along I'll let you know what it's all been about.

Happy Belated Birthday! Love the wrapper on the chocolate bar. I'm one of those people who definitely think things taste nicer if they're in lovely packaging haha. I've kept certain cards from special occasions over the years but these days I tend not to bother. My favourites are definitely those that Amy and Tom made at primary school. x
ReplyDeleteThank you. The wrapper is so pretty.
DeleteA few special cards is fine, but I seem to have kept all from every birthday/easter/christmas/anniversary. It was ridiculous!
Belated birthday wishes Sadie. Quiet is good in my opinion! I was looking for something in the attic a few weeks ago and found all the cards we received when our elder daughter was born over 34 years ago! It really is time for a huge declutter up there.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to report that we're really happy with our rendering work. Two of the 3 new outdoor lights are now up, all the fencing has been painted, and we just have to do a bit of a revamp on the porch canopy and fit the light at the back.Unfortunately the most important thing we need was out of stock today. It looks like I have a new house at last after an 11 year wait.
Thank you Scarlet. Quiet is superb in my opinion too. The feeling of getting rid of stuff is something I think I've got addicted to. While it's nice to keep a few things for sentimental reasons, it's utterly refreshing having a proper clear out.
DeleteSo glad the rendering is done and the other changes almost completed. It is such an achievement when you reach that and can just enjoy the work instead of living through it! You sound so happy, I'm really delighted for you! x
