mud & roses

Good afternoon. A later post today as it's Thursday and the day started with the weekly shop. Then Bill had a dentist appointment, he took Violet to college at lunchtime, then he went off to Frinton to check on the beach hut. I've had a lovely time rearranging the fresh flowers, at this time of year I tend to opt for shades of red.
The house has been full of trade, the lads I like to refer to as my Squad! While the plan is for the bathroom to be completed tomorrow there is a chance it might over run slightly. How I hope that is not the case. I'm ready for the house to be just myself and the cat during the day, and I think we are all ready to finally try out the bath. Either way, we are headed towards the end so I'm focusing on that. Apparently Project 2 picks up again on Monday. I'm anxious to have the bathroom bods out of the way first, as Project 2 people tend to have huge vans/trucks, not sure what to call them. So I'm keeping my mouth shut about Project 2 until I see things happening with it, I'm still not 100% confident of it being done this year, even though a hefty chunk of the work has already been sorted out. You'll see what I mean when I eventually show photos.
On something of a roll, and basking in the praise from Bill when he saw my demolishment of the raised flower bed, I went power mad this afternoon and flattened another one. The remains can be seen in this photo. Yesterday's walls were easy to knock down, but this one was even easier, they had gone totally rotten so would have fallen apart had it not been for the membrane inside. Yet again I've done it in unsuiable footwear, I should have changed into my boots, but instead kept on my trainers. They're suede so I'm an idiot, I hope I can get the muddy marks off the front and clean up the mucky sides.
The plan for this part of the garden is to move the compost heaps from down the side of the house to here. Easier access and less chance of having to risk seeing that woman next door. Also, it will make it harder for her to dump stuff over the fence, it was obvious before but if there's nothing at all there it will be even more obvious. I hate that we are making changes because we don't want to have to look at/talk to/have anything to do with her. But it is what it is, and if it means we can go through life without having to look at the clown then it's time well spent.

  1. The bathroom is looking lovely from the snippets I've seen. Love how you just crack on with what needs doing even when it's knocking walls down! I don't mind getting stuck into things if I can see an obvious difference, I tend to like instant gratification :) The roses are beautiful. I've not had any flowers here for a while. We're also still in re-vamp stage but I'm so looking forward to it all ending and being able to do some frilly stuff. xx

    1. Thanks Suzanne. It's been hard going but things are shaping up and I cannot wait for it to be over. Next year I'll look back on these posts and wonder the heck we got through it, it has been a lot.
But you've not exactly been slack have you? Seem to recall something about knocking down a wall from you!

I cannot live without flowers in the house. Even in the midst of madness they bring calm and normality, so I suggest you get some quick-sticks and soothe your mind. x

  2. How I wish I could get away with recommending barbed wire fence topping, preferably electrified!! Wow, you're a demon with that garden fork, shame about the trainers but has a familiar ring this end too!

    1. ha ha, I love that suggestion! Ironically, they have spikey stuff along the top of their back fence. Supposedly as some anti burglar device which is a joke, the fence is 20 years old, wobbly, and about to fall down, if someone really wanted to enter that way a good push would work. The spikes are really to deter cats, they pretend to like them but 'are allergic', which I am very doubtful of. Not nice people at all.

why do we do it Annabeth? As I trampled in the mud I looked at my feet and thought oh. should have changed them. then carried on. I am a moron!
