new things

Been doing a bit of shopping online.
When I found that Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall had a new book coming out I pre-ordered it quick-sticks the very same day. It was released on Thursday, in my hands by Thursday afternoon.
Loving it, and have earmarked a couple of recipes to try soon.

Last year we had the advent calendar from Rituals. It was a such a hit that I promised we'd have their calendar this year too. I've been keeping an eye out so I could order it as soon as it was available. It arrived last week.

Last years was lovely, it was the little snowy village with lights. It took ages to set up but looked so pretty once it was done. This year it's a tree shape with the parcels hanging off it. I don't think the design is anywhere near as nice, but the products are worth it so it's fine.
They give three options this year: 2D, 3D, and the Premium. I've gone for the middle one, the 3D version.

To be absolutely honest I don't mind having a little splurge when it comes to a calendar that Bill, Violet and I all share because it's very much a festive treat. I'd rather get one really decent calendar than waste almost as much money on three not so good calendars. But I draw the line at forking out £160 for one just because it's labelled 'premium'. The middle one is more than enough and will do us nicely.
That said, I do think the Rituals calendars are fantastic, the products are gorgeous. And it would make a superb alternative Christmas pressie to give to someone to open in the run up to Christmas instead of them having one present on the day. They come beautifully packaged, so would really make a perfect gift.
If you want one check out their website [HERE], and be sure to order early. They sell out very quickly.
