caviar & macaron

Important things first, Violet got her exam results - eventually, there was much panic, emails still pinging back, so I made another visit to school and waited there until Violet texted me to say she'd finally got them. She did superbly well, though in true Violet fashion she thinks she could have done better. She holds herself to such a high standard that what is excellent to everyone else is only 'ok' to her. But take it from me, she did really well. We are proud and she should be so proud of herself.

It was too hot for a baked potato really, but I decided I had to make it as it had become such a craving. And here's the thing, I'm not the biggest caviar fan. I like it, but it's not something I would want to eat all the time. I only eat it when I really fancy it. But I could easily eat this a couple of times a month, it is that good. The recipe is simple, depending on which one you go with. I opted to follow the Fortnum's recipe, but then dolloped soured cream on top too. When I make it again I'm not going to mix Crème fraîche in the potato, only butter, salt. pepper, lemon zest and chives, and then the soured cream on top. For my tastebuds the Crème fraîche made it slightly too creamy. But lemon zest inside to compliment the caviar was fantastic. It felt like a very luxurious meal and one that I completely recommend.
The wanderers returned around 5 p.m. They'd been for a bike ride and had lunch in Walberswick. When Violet had been collected by her Aunt the day before they'd headed up to Norwich before going home to Walberswick. Violet had asked me which shops she should go to in Norwich, so I suggested Jarrolds and of course, Macarons and More. They made it to Macarons and More and bought us a box of macarons, such a fantastic treat. I think I'd go as far to say if you offered me a box of finest Charbonnel & Walker chocs, or a box of Macarons, I'd choose the latter. I love them. It was a good way to end a pretty good day.

On the agenda today. I've already stripped the bed and will get the sheets out soon. No work on the project for a week or so, meaning the cars are out of the garage and we have space to get in there again. I've got some more stuff to pull out to take to the dump tomorrow, hopefully it'll be our last run for a while but who's to say? We are on a roll. And I need to package the jeans that were delivered yesterday. The clothes and shoes I ordered arrived, and I love them all apart from the jeans. Not a great fit, and for the money I have to be happy. But I'll just order another pair once the money is refunded.

  1. Congratulations to Violet. I have been trying to create order out of chaos in our garage - it is one of those catch all places that annoys me the most.

    1. Thank you.
Ah yes, the garage is definitely the place to dump anything and everything isn't it? It's been driving me mad for a few years now, so I'm feeling ridiculously happy at the change!

  2. Congratulations to Violet on her GCSE results. Me and Amy dropped Tom near school then waited for him watching all the students file in and file out again clutching their white envelopes. It felt like an age before he appeared with his. His grades mean he can go into college at the level he wanted so that's good news. What a lovely treat to be brought a box of macarons. I'm a heathen so would probably stuff a chocolate and a macaron in together! Have a lovely weekend. xx

    1. Yey, that's great news! Such an anxious time for them. Onwards and upwards for them now.

ooh, you'd enjoy the choccy flavoured macarons then, they are really good! I draw the line at the ones coated in melted chocolate, nope, not for me! x
