festive pink

When I saw this pink Poinsettia in Waitrose yesterday I really wanted to buy it. But it's too early, going on experience there is no way I could keep this alive until December, I hope they get more in closer to the time.

On Wednesday I spent the day cleaning. Even though I knew there would be a lot of dust, I kept the bedroom door open during the duration of the work being done so it would be as light and airy as possible for anyone working upstairs. With everything finished it was time to give the room a proper deep clean. It took almost the entire day as I also did things like flip the mattress and go through the books I keep under the bed, chucking out a further three. I'm still in the mindset of getting rid of as much as I can.

Did I have to eat my words about the Project 2 people? Yes and no. They arrived a little after 1, the chap was disappointed to hear that I hadn't been told when they'd arrive, but I wasn't bothered about the time, it was just good to see them. Work started and I took myself out of the way, then I heard some swearing and knew something wasn't right. Long story short something had been mismeasured so they had to go back to the yard to redo it. I had to laugh, because what was the alternative? These things happen, it was a pity but just one of those things.
It meant that Wednesday would be a No Trade day, so gave me the opportunity to get on with my cleaning with no need to keep stopping to make tea and coffee. While a shame, it wasn't exactly the biggest disaster. Work is continuing now, so later on I'll write a post explaining what's been going on and showing a few photos.
A recipe reel caught my eye on the gram. Baked pears with gorgonzola, almonds, and honey. You scoop a little out of the pear, then fill with nuts and cheese and bake. I changed it to include walnuts as I prefer them, but other than that did it exactly as suggested. It was so yummy. It's funny, I am not a fan of pears, but I really enjoy them cooked and served with cheese and nuts. Such a simple recipe and another keeper.

Another crazy week in politics here, and no surprise to see the Not-Voted-For-By-The-People "Prime Minister" having to resign yesterday. Whoever is ushered in as PM next needs to call for a general election if they are to restore any tiny slice of credibilty. The whole thing is a fiasco, and if it wasn't affecting the lives of the British people I'd say it was a joke. But it's not funny and it's time to sort things out.

Half term now. No real plans. The project will continue into next week so I'll have to be here, but hopefully Violet can get away to spend time with her Aunt at some point, that would be lovely. We do have plans to work on Violet's Study Room, but not sure what exactly those plans will be as yet.

  1. Those pears look yummy. If I can find them just ripe they're one of my favourite fruits. I'm not sure I've ever seen a pink poinsettia before, it's gorgeous. I totally agree with your call for a General Election. It's farcical what's happening and the cynical side of me wonders if it's all part of a bigger plan so the government doesn't have to actually deal with the reality of what's going on in people's lives right regarding energy prices, inflation etc. For the first time ever I really don't think I'd vote for anyone. My confidence in any party working for the country's interest as opposed to their own self interest is at zero. On a more positive not, glad to hear the project has started. xx

    1. Never been a fan of pears, but when they are cooked, ooh, yum!
Pink Poinsettias are hard to find, I have got them from Waitrose before, but that was many many years ago and I hadn't seen them since.

We have to have an election. Not sure anyone can do any good but at least we have to boot out the current circus clowns. I'm ashamed of our politics right now, the whole situation is a joke.

Yes, hurrah to project progress, it's taken long enough! x
